It is always bittersweet to pack up the bike (or trikes) and our belongings in readiness for our flight home. There is the anticipation of returning to our island home, friends a d family, but there is also the desire to continue our travels. Barry and I share a hankering and love for the nomad lifestyle of exploring independently on our trikes or tandem. This makes us compatible travellers with overlapping priorities. We feel fortunate.
After 3 days here, we feel such a good connection with Wes and Rineke. They kindly drove us to the airport. We have so enjoyed getting to know them and hope to return here one day.
As a young man, he travelled to Canada and spent time at Burns Lake with relatives as well as the Fraser Valley visiting farms. He hopes to bring Rineke to Canada one day…
Travelling with a big tandem is always stressful at this point in the journey. So much depends on the type of person who checks us in and whether or not we will encounter problems. Fingers crossed.🤞
We had a very kind agent checking us in. The weight of our bike was over the weight allowance and she kept track as we removed parts of the bike from the bag. It worked out in the end.
Nonetheless, we had to pay for excess baggage. Since we now have trikes, we will travel on them and reserve Seavo for riding at home.

KLM is a lovely airline, very hospitable. However, we find their bike policy not very friendly. Registering our bike for the return was quite laborious and time consuming. Once we had completed the process, we had to wait 48 hours for approval.
Jacquie GaudetWe had to do that too; they sure don't make it easy. Then, when they changed our flight, our bike registrations weren't automatically changed as well.
However, while the bike fee is higher than Air Canada's $50, it is still much lower than Lufthansa's was. It seems Lufthansa has recently changed their bike policy but we haven't tested it. Reply to this comment 2 months ago
The flight went well, but we were so glad to get off the plane. Our seats by the emergency exit offer terrific leg room, but since we were also by the bathroom, we had a mass of humanity in our space most of the flight. Never again.
When we were planning our flight, we were dismayed by the inflated prices for hotels by the Vancouver Airport and in Tsawassen. Prices were mostly doubled from the usual. We decided to give the very old and modest Beach Grove Motel in Tsawwassen a try. It was ok. There is new ownership, some updates have been made, it was clean and the price was right.
Seavo has pride of place in the kitchenette in our room at the Beach Grove. We were knackered from the flight and slept well.
