I’ve cycled most of my life since I was a young boy. In my 20s and 30s, I owned a bicycle shop in a small town in Southern Ohio. Chillicothe. It was    at this time that I was introduced to cycle touring. My wife and I had what may have been the first American Youth Home Hostel in the United States, the 1970s. Since then, my current partner and I have been Warm Showers Hosts and have hosted many cyclist from around the world. 

So, needless to say, I’ve had a keen interest in cycle touring for many years but, have had limited cycling experience myself. Now is my time as I attempt to cycle the Northern Tier of the United States.

The title 80+1 refers to my age of 80 years old. The +1 refers to my great grandson who is experiencing his first year of life and who I’ve never met yet. He lives in Ohio and I live in Washington State.
