Load'em Up and Move'em Out: Really-we need all this?!

Seems yes we do. We have packed, unpacked, removed, added items and we still end up with just about the same load every time. This is what we are taking.

I told you it was a magic show!! We might be leaving a trail of discarded items behind us.....but this is what we are starting out with. The only two items added since our last tour are the ultra lite camp chairs (but we did remove the Thermarest chair adaptor) and the bear can.

Janet carries her personal clothing, rain gear - jacket/pants shoe covers, sleeping bag, blow up pillow and air mattress Exped SynMat 7 ( I carry Jack's mattress because he carries the bear can), toiletries, phone, iPad, iPod (chargers and cords), head lamp, foldable bucket, first aid kit/meds, 1/2 the fuel, stove- whisper lite, two pots, 2 bowls, 2 sporks, wooden spoon, salt/pepper, spices, green tea, matches and half a weeks worth of food. I also carry 8oz olive oil and 8oz tequila and an Alite Monarch Butterfly chair (new this season). Rebel XS Camera and lens. 2-tubes and a hand pump. Camp towel, Map set, Plastic covers for bikes, and bike lock. Small compressible Sea to Summit backpack, Spare glasses (just in case). Helmet and new this season Da Brim. Two platypus 70 oz foldable water bottles (to be filled when necessary). Weight about 45 lbs.

Jack carries his personal clothing, rain gear-jacket/pants shoe covers, toiletries, camp towel, sleeping bag, sleeping bag liner, pillow, head lamp, bear can, 1/2 weeks food, coffee pot and dry coffee, Kindle, iPod, phone, tools/spare whatever parts, 2-tubes, hand pump, Alite Monarch Butterfly chair, section map, paper book (just in case kindle dies he would be lost w/o a book). Tent Nemo Losi 3 person, plastic foot print, bike lock, small compressible Sea to Summit backpack. Helmet and Da Brim. Sunscreen. Weight about 49 lbs.

As you can see there isn't anything there that is purely for fun......well the iPad and Kindle but hey it is going to be two months! Weight wise we are close. The tent and tools are heavier than some of the items I carry but when it all works out we are very very close.

Jack says when it comes to bike touring he is a 'feminist'. He believes I have the right to carry my weight! So to speak. No pass here for being a girl. Thanks babe!
