Saguaro National Park

Wednesday

Nothing new to report, as we both essentially took the day off.  First though I took my flat rear wheel down to Fair Wheel to buy some spare tubes and have them install one after finding the cause of the flat - which they did a few minutes later, showing me the tip of a thorn that had penetrated the casing.  Was there anything else to report though?  No, I think that’s about it.

Two!!

Thursday

I’ve hiked before in Saguaro national park but this was by far the best hike!  I wish I would have had more time to continue on the trail.  Next time in Tucson I’m definitely going to do that.  Scott didn’t bring his senior pass so I had to buy one and it’s good through next February.

The trail wound its way around several beautiful rock formations.

Even though I wasn’t biking I had to walk up and get a photo of the road I cycled many times before.

So this is mostly Rachael’s day, but there’s a little more to add.  First, there’s the fact that I dropped her off at the park visitor center for the start of her hike, and then drove north to Agua Caliente for some bird watching until it was time to pick her up.  That wasn’t the original plan for the day though.  The original plan was to ride out to Colossal Caves with the Branhams while Rachael took her hike, and then afterwards we’d all go over to nearby Saguaro Corners for lunch.  I backed out of the ride though after realizing how badly I was swelling up and decided to stay off the bike until we fly home Monday.  Lunch and a last chance to visit for awhile is still the right plan though, so at 12:30 we’re all seated outdoors on the deck under the shade of an umbrella, debating whether peanut butter stout is the latest, greatest thing in nonalcoholic beers.

Another rock wren! That’s two in two days, enough that I think I might start recognizing them by their behavior.

A non-alcoholic peanut butter stout! Irresistable?

Impressive! Brewed by the first nonalcoholic craft brewery in America, home of the Bravus. That’s definitely worth checking out.

Sort of my reaction too. One and done, I think.

Karen PoretHope your swelling subsides before your flight, Scott. Would compression socks be a possibility or could it be a deterrent? Take care!!

Steve Miller/GrampiesKaren is on to something. Dodie has taken to wearing very lightweight, minimal compression socks available at Wal-Mart at home. They seem to keep her foot and ankle swelling under control. Might be worth checking out.
