Pantano Double Date / Snow Moon

Here’s a short but sweet post, blasted out in a rush to free up space for the longer one just ahead.  It’s a lunch date ride, with us biking back up to Rillito Wash to have lunch at Proof again so Rachael can have seconds on that fig pizza she was so enamored with.  Later in the day we’ll catch the bus east to take in another Oscar contender at The Loft: I’m Still here.

I carried the phone but didn’t use it much, relying on the GoPro to tell the day’s tale.  And in case you’re puzzled by the name of the sound track and thought I screwed up again, it’s correct.  Pantano is the name of the wash, but Pantano is also the name of the sound.  It’s a Spanish noun, a new one to me:

Sunken land with a more or less slothy background and abundant vegetation, where the waters stagnate naturally.

Sound track: Pantano, by Cal Tjader

A shot from later in the day, when I was sitting by the window and looked up at the right time.

Tonight’s snacks: a green chili tamale and a box of red vines.

We caught Uber back to our neighborhood and had him drop us off at the bank next door.  Looking up, I saw that the nearly full moon was clear in the sky so I rushed inside, grabbed the camera, and fired off a few shots.  It was just in time, because within two minutes of my return to the street it began to disappear beneath the clouds.

The Snow Moon, one day before full.

And the view the following evening, at its maximum. Not far below it is the crestline of the Rincon Mountains.

First coyote of the season! Not a great shot - he’s pretty far off and the light is fading fast, but since he’s the first well include him.
