Oro Valley / Skyline walk

Wednesday: Oro Valley

After biking 225 miles in the last week it feels like I’m due some time off so I just follow Rachael out to Oro Valley again and let her do all the work.

Thursday: Skyline walk

One good break deserves another.  After being a day or more behind for nearly a month, let’s finally get current.  There are two stories here.  First, there’s Rachael’s long trek north to the foothills of the Catalina range, where we have a lunch date at North Italia.  It’s a restaurant we discovered two winters ago and enjoy but haven’t gone to before now because it’s too far without a car.

Then, there’s the fact that I can join her there so she doesn’t need to dine alone because we’ve got wheels!  Our time has gone surprisingly fast here and it’s hard to believe we’ve been here for over five weeks, but it won’t be long before it’s time to fly north again.  During these five weeks we’ve pretty well mined the basin for rides and walks we can get to on day rides, so for the last ten we decided to rent an SUV and get to some spots farther out and up.  We’ve got a list in mind and we’ll take it a day at a time deciding where to go next:

  • Madera Canyon
  • Oracle
  • Aravaca Road
  • Patagonia
  • Sabino Canyon
  • Saguaro National Park / Colossal Caves

While Rachael’s walking north into the hills, my job is to bike out to the airport and pick up the vehicle.  With plenty of time on my hands it feels like a good time to stop by the Blue Willow for a splurge breakfast.

Chorizo scramble.
