The long drive: home at last
Another long drive, but a short post. We left the motel at about 8 after another scrumptious budget motel breakfast, and drove straight through to Portland other than for a fast gas and loo stop in Cascade Locks. The Columbia Gorge is of course green and beautiful at this time of year and it’s wonderful to see our state again, but that didn’t slow us down. At this point we’re just ready to be done with the drive.
We arrived home a bit after noon. We can’t check into our new digs until 3, so we started by stopping by our storage unit to pick up some belongings. After that Rachael took off on her own for a bike ride to Oregon City, while I marked time until our apartment was ready.

Our new home looks great, and we’re very excited about it. It’s a studio apartment in a condo in the Pearl District, just about two blocks from our old home from three years ago. The location is perfect - a block from the Safeway, a block from our bank, two blocks from my sister’s home, five blocks from our storage unit, and within easy walking distance to my favorite coffee shops that I’ve been going to for years as well as several of our favorite restaurants.
And the condo unit itself looks like it will be very comfortable. We’re already thinking that if we just book ourselves far enough in advance it would be perfect as our primary base when we return to Portland. We’ll be here for two months and have also booked it for another month this winter, which is as far into the future as we’re ready to look at this time.
