The Calm Before the Van Ride to Base Camp
This is the point where many blogs quote the Peter, Paul, and Mary song, and report "My bags are packed, I'm ready to go". So it is with us. The kids have their business cards on tap:

And their maps have been received from the Friends of the Coeur d'Alene:
The kids spent hours in quiet play among their packs, and had their "trail nails" painted on.
Then is was a Last Supper at Famous Dave's, an excellent Montana BBQ chain. Calming stories followed, and bedding down, for practice, amid their gear. To be honest, this did not result in immediate sweet dreams. Rather, an hour later, they are still bouncing around. Update: two hours and counting, they are awake but more settled now. Avi asked me just now "Is resting time over yet? Do we go on the bike trip now?" I guess there is no real way for them to be calm, after all this buildup. Eventually, they will sleep, and their instructions are to wake us up when they figure morning has come. Like at Christmas, that could be an early hour indeed!
