Well my time on the bike has come to an end and a new phase begins. I'll miss some things about being on the road, but home and family beckon. I'll miss Jamie, to be sure!
I'm so glad that I decided to come and see the Northwestern mountains. Both the North Cascades and the Rockies are stunning, and the Going to the Sun Road in Glacier was a fitting finale.
Deep mysterious woods dappled with sunlight, and sometimes a deer peeking out. Soaring peaks, tumbling cascades, cataracts hundreds of feet high. Osprey and raven nests. Clean, beautiful fresh air with the pungent smell of poplars or firs. A soundscape that includes the burble of western meadowlarks, trilling of Swainsons thrushes, sassy songs of western tanagers, and many other mysterious birdy voices. All this was so worth experiencing, in spite of the inconvenience of traffic or loud campsites. Bicycles are such a great way to experience the landscape - not too fast or too slow, hearing and smell open to it all.
I am so grateful.
