Day 85: Rest day

This morning we checked out of our hotel and drove up to Kuranda to visit it again, this time without going on the Skyrail.

I drove the car. It felt a little weird going so fast compared to my slow treadly.

I was very excited to go to the Kuranda Koala Gardens.

They look cuddly like a teddy bear.

Her name is Kiki and she is 6 years old. She was very soft just like a teddy bear.

Two pretty girls.

It was pretty awesome. I've seen koalas in the wild before when I was young but I've never held one.

There were also other animals at the place.

A swamp wallaby. Serena is feeding it some pellets.

These are commonly known as 'freshies'. These ones are about 2 metres long. They're meant to be harmless to humans.

I'll probably swim amongst some freshies later on in my bike trip. I'm a little scared of doing so.

After the Koala place we went next door to Birdworld. It was a big aviary with lots of colourful birds flying around. You could feed them and sometimes they would land on your shoulder.

It had foreign birds and native birds.

I'll show the foreign birds first:

Blue and gold macaw.

There were many more that I didn't photograph.

It was a big day. I was pleased to see so many birds and animals.

I hope I get to see them in the wild while I continue to ride around Australia.

All up, it cost $130 for today's activities. A reasonable fare.

We left Kuranda and went up the coast a little way to stay at Palm Cove.
