Day 37 - On Top of the World
Sorry for another late post. No service at the campsite last night. Long update ahead:
Hotel breakfast. I shouldn’t have to say anything else for you to know today was a good day. But after that we got going. I didn’t sleep great last night due to being too excited about everything that’s coming up. But still so sad Dad has to leave. I guess I’m not the only one in the family. We got going and I felt pretty good. We had a downhill for about 30 miles and that was magical. Dad led. So thankful for him. I think he led the entire day except 5 miles. I don’t know how he does it. Not much wind but still. It was impressive. We stopped after 35 miles cause we had our first uphill. We got really cold in the morning because we weren’t working hard and it was a little windy. But finally we warmed up and I was sweating a great deal. Probably from breakfast. As we were about to get going dad saw he had a air bubble in his tire. We changed it and were so thankful we got tubes at Walmart yesterday. Around mile 55 we had a stop at a gas station. I didn’t love it so we decided to get another 14 miles to stop for lunch. Went through more Indian reservations but these seem a lot different than the ones back in OK. We had lunch right outside a casino. First time I’ve ever gone in one of them. Had a few drunks stumbling out of there while we happily ate out tortillas. Then we got going. Same thing happened. Right as we were about to start my back tire was squishy. Dad pumped it up and we prayed it would last the day. After three miles I could tell it wasn’t doing great so he replaced it for me. Again, so thankful. Then 3 miles later we made it to the gas station. For some reason I hit a real low point and was struggling to hold 10 mph in a decent descent. It was a real weird feeling. But we made it and got going. Same thing. My back tire was flat. Dad changed it. So thankful. We made it to Walmart and got more tubes. Did not expect us to go through 3 in 24 hours! Another 2.5 miles later was a gas station. Last one until tomorrow. I was getting nervous about the climb. 1500 feet of up in about 12 miles. It was weird getting nervous about it cause not much has made me nervous out here. But we made it. Slowly. It was real pretty. Today was real pretty. Had 2 fast descents which were real scary with idiotic drivers. If you try and pass two cyclists with cliffs on the sides and a car coming towards you on a narrow road. Just don’t. We made it here. Safely. Got camp set up and cold soaked dinner again. Never fails to disappoint. Took some pics and wrote a VERY long journal and going to bed. Sorry if it’s too long :)
And we stayed at Top-of-the-world so I had to have this song
