Counting counties & AONB’s
Counties in England are confusing because they came in generations. There were the Historical Counties prior to I think 1998; and then the Ceremonial Counties, until 2013? And now we have the Metropolitan and non-Metropolitan Counties, of which there are 82 not including London. And then there’s Wales, which we’ll defer until we get there.

I like to keep count, and I like reinforcing the mental map I’ve gradually been developing; so I’ll update this as we go with new counties as we come to them. While I’m at it I might as well keep track of the AONB’s (Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty) and significant parks we bike through.
