This page will list all of the courthouses we visited. Check back frequently for updates!

Courthouse 0 - Citrus County, Inverness, Florida

This is the old courthouse in the county where we live. We hope to find 50 county courthouses for our 50 years of marriage. Since this is the start and we haven't visited it on one of our 2024 tour days, I'm calling it number 0.

This courthouse was built in 1912 and used until 1970, when it was replaced with a new, larger, but much less beautiful, building.

The old courthouse fell into disrepair and, by 1992, plans were underway for its demolition. That year it was placed on the National Register of Historic Places and saved. It underwent renovation and reopened in 2000, housing the Old Courthouse Heritage Museum.

The biggest thing that ever happened in the courthouse was its use in an Elvis Pressley movie. "Follow that Dream" was filmed in the area in 1961 and courtroom scenes were filmed here. That's cardboard Elvis leaning out of a 2nd story window.

Courthouse 1 - The Lorain County, OH (pop. 316,268) Courthouse is located in Elyria (pop. 52,908) and was constructed from 1879-1881. It now houses county offices and is not used as a court.

Courthouse 1A - This is the current Lorain County Courthouse, located directly across the street from the old one. It opened in 2009.

Courthouse 2 - The Huron County, OH (pop. 58,565) Courthouse is located in Norwalk (pop. 17,069) and was constructed in 1913. .

Courthouse 3 - The Sandusky County, OH (pop. 58,896) Courthouse is located in Fremont (pop. 15,930). Originally constructed in 1844, it was extensively modified and expanded in the 1930's.

Courthouse 4 - The Ottawa County, OH (pop. 40,364) Courthouse is located in Port Clinton (pop. 6,025) and was constructed in 1901.

Courthouse 5 - The Wood County, OH (pop. 132,248) Courthouse is located in Bowling Green (pop. 30,808) and was constructed in 1894.

Courthouse 6 - The Defiance County, OH (pop. 38,286) Courthouse is located in the town of Defiance (pop. 17,066) and was constructed in 1873.

Courthouse 7 - The Henry County, OH (pop. 27,622) Courthouse is located in Napolean (pop. 8,862) and was completed in 1882.

Courthouse 8 - The Fulton County, OH (pop. 42,713) Courthouse is located in Wauseon (pop. 7,568) and was completed in 1870.

Courthouse 9 - The Clark County, IN (pop. 121,093) Courthouse is located in Jeffersonville (pop. 49,447) and was completed in 1970.

Courthouse 10 - The Scott County, IN (pop. 24,384) Courthouse is located in Scottsburg (pop. 7,369) and was completed in 1874. An addition in 1997 tripled the courthouse size. The original courthouse is now the west wing of the building and is on the far right of this photo.

Courthouse 11 - The Jefferson County, IN (pop. 33,147) Courthouse is located in Madison (pop. 12,211) and was completed in 1855.

Courthouse 12 - The Switzerland County, IN (pop. 10,006) Courthouse is located in Vevay (pop. 1,777) and was completed in 1864.

Courthouse 13 - The Ohio County, IN (pop. 6,114) Courthouse is located in Rising Sun (pop. 2,277) and was completed in 1845.

Courthouse 14 - The Dearborn County, IN (pop. 50,679) Courthouse is located in Lawrenceburg (pop. 5,192) and was completed in 1871.

Courthouse 15 - The Franklin County, IN (pop. 23,028) Courthouse is located in Brookville (pop. 2,641) and was originally completed in 1855. It was extensively remodeled in 1878. The courthouse was remodeled again (and expanded) in 1910 to its current configuration.

Courthouse 16 - The Union County, IN (pop. 6,952) Courthouse is located in Liberty (pop. 2,003) and was completed in 1891.

Courthouse 17 - The Preble County, OH (pop. 40,596) Courthouse is located in Eaton (pop. 8,315) and was completed in 1918.

Courthouse 18 - The Wayne County, IN (pop. 61,273) Courthouse is located in Richmond (pop. 35,513) and was completed in 1893.

Courthouse 19 - The Darke County, OH (pop. 51,529) Courthouse is located in Greenville (pop. 12,720) and was completed in 1875.

Courthouse 20 - The Randolph County, IN (pop. 24,502) Courthouse is located in Winchester (pop. 4,827) and was completed in 1877.

Courthouse 21 - The Jay County, IN (pop. 20,198) Courthouse is located in Portland (pop. 6,234) and was completed in 1919.

Courthouse 22 - The Wells County, IN (pop. 28,335) Courthouse is located in Bluffton (pop. 10,379) and was completed in 1891.

Courthouse 23A - The Adams County, IN (pop. 36,068) Courthouse is located in Decatur (pop. 9,990) and was completed in 1873. It houses the county's Circuit Court.

Courthouse 23B - The Adams County Superior Court is located across the street from the Circuit Court. It was completed in 1905.

Courthouse 24 - The Van Wert County, OH (pop. 28,769) Courthouse is located in the town of Van Wert (pop. 11,063) and was completed in 1876.

Courthouse 25 - The Paulding County, OH (pop. 18,757) Courthouse is located in the town of Paulding (pop. 3,546) and was completed in 1867.

Courthouse 26 - The Williams County, OH (pop. 36,652) Courthouse is located in Bryan (pop. 8,623) and was completed in 1891.

Courthouse 27 - The Steuben County, IN (pop. 34,435) Courthouse is located in Angola (pop. 8,612) and was completed in 1868.

Courthouse 28 - The Branch County, MI (pop. 44,531) Courthouse is located in Coldwater (pop. 13,296) and was completed in 1976.

Courthouse 29 (a) - The current Eaton County, MI (pop. 108,992) Courthouse is located in Charlotte (pop. 9,260) and was completed in 1976.

Courthouse 29 (b) - The first Eaton County Courthouse was built in 1845.

Courthouse 29 (c) - The second Eaton County Courthouse was built in 1885.

Courthouse 32 - The Isabella County, MI (pop. 64,447) Courthouse is located in Mt. Pleasant (pop. 21,094) and was completed in 2000.

Courthouse 40 - The Newaygo County, MI (pop. 50,886) Courthouse is located in White Cloud (pop. 1,482) and was completed in 1992.

Courthouse 41 - The Muskegon County, MI (pop. 176,565) Courthouse is located in the city of Muskegon (pop. 38,220) and was completed in 1960.

Courthouse 42 - The Ionia County, MI (pop. 66,809) Courthouse is located in the town of Ionia (pop. 12,935) and was completed in 1885.

Courthouse 43 - The Barry County, MI (pop. 65,554) Courthouse is located in Hastings (pop. 7,524) and was completed in 1894.

Alain AbbateWhen you get to 50, you should have a vote for the nicest courthouse. Its amazing how much civic pride and effort went into constructing those old buildings.
