It was a great ride today. It was warm and sunny, there was a healthy tailwind, the scenery was varied, and I had a local cyclist join me for about 10 miles. Even the following 2 photos couldn't dampen the day :-)
Just past the above photo, I met a cyclist headed the opposite direction and we stopped and talked for a bit. His name was Mitch and he said that said that since he was just out for a local ride, he would turn around and ride with me to Bellevue. The roads in this segment had almost no traffic, so we could ride side-by-side and talk. It was nice to talk to someone who had knowledge of the area and point out things that otherwise would have no meaning to me.
The next town along today's route was Olivet. We have been thru Olivet a couple of times before, but I still enjoyed riding past the college, as it has a very attractive campus.
As soon as I reached our motel in Charlotte, Jeanna & I drove back to the center of town to see the courthouse and have lunch, in that order. It turns out that there are 3 courthouses in Charlotte. The one below was Charlotte's 2nd courthouse and is now a museum filled with local artifacts.
The 2nd Eaton County Courthouse was built in 1885 and now serves as the county museum.
The museum was having book sale today, but a Julie, a museum volunteer, took time off from the sale to give us a tour of the museum which occupies the 2nd and 3rd floors.
Jeanna & Julie, our museum guide. Thank You Julie!!
It was from Julie that we learned that there were 2 other courthouses in Charlotte. Charlotte's first courthouse now resides about a mile south of town.
