Day 35 - Van Wert to Bryan

Heart 0 Comment 0

The weather forecast for today was correct.  IT WAS WINDY!  Luckily, most of the ride was into a quartering headwind instead of a direct headwind, so it wasn't all that bad pedaling, but it was difficult riding on a straight track.  I was glad that most of the day was on farm roads with no traffic, so I didn't have to worry so much about weaving when a strong gust hit me.

We're in an old roadside motel in Bryan tonight that has very poor WiFi.  I'm currently sitting in a McDonald's to post this and its cold inside, so I'm going to let the pictures do most of the talking so I can get back to our warm room as soon as possible.

The ride between Van Wert and Paulding mostly looked like this. Except for the headwind it was great riding.

It is another courthouse that sits on a courthouse square, surrounded by the old business district. We love towns like this.

Kelly IniguezAre court houses everywhere this majestic and I’ve never noticed? Or is it just the Midwest?

And the 3rd floor, which is where the courtroom is located. Unfortunately, it was locked, so we couldn't take any photos

Bryan is home to the Spangle Candy Company. They quit giving factory tours during covid and opened this showroom on the square instead.

There wasn't really much to see - just a few exhibits and some short videos.

However, the town water tower was really neat. It is located right next to the Spangler Candy Company factory

Want to guess what Spangler makes??
Heart 2 Comment 0
Although they're not on the water tower, Spangler also makes Bit 'O Honey, Necco's and other assorted hard candies.

After I looked at the photos, I realized that I only got 7 of the 8 flavors. I might go back tomorrow to get them all.
