Day 65 - Portsmouth to Ogunquit

It was a short route from Portsmouth to Ogunquit.  We hung around the hotel under about 12:30, which was a nice way to start the day.

These bicycle boxes are a good safety feature. Portsmouth seemed like a pretty bike friendly town.

We visited an interesting museum in Portsmouth.  The USS Albacore is a research submarine built at the Portsmouth Naval Yard.  It was used to test experimental features for Cold War era submarines and was in service from 1953 to 1972.  Audio stations on the vessel gave information about the ship during the self-guided tour.

I find it more interesting to imagine daily life on a small sub.  One word would be cozy.

Crew berths - sometimes berths were shared between crew working different shifts.

I can't imagine sleeping like this - and underwater!

This reminded me a little bit of the "private bathroom" we had in an Amtrak compartment. The shower just comes down on everything.

Sorry, Kerry, no Diet Coke.

Comfortable working conditions are not high on the priority list on a sub

In Maine, we rode from Kittery through York and on to Ogunquit.  We didn't make any stops, but here are some Maine coast pictures.

York Beach - I wondered if this were imported sand, since the shoreline we've been seeing is very rocky.
