Day 112 - Strathroy to Goderich

It was another long day.  We've now done two metric centuries in a row.  Today's ride was easier than yesterday's.  It was a bit cooler, mostly cloudy and we had a great tailwind most of the way.  The forecast yesterday made us get mentally prepared to break out the rain gear this, but overnight the rain chances diminished considerably, and we were left with a two hour window of a 40% chance of rain - not bad odds at all.  The tailwind increased our average speed by a couple of miles an hour, which really helps on a long day.

We had a road construction ahead sign just a few miles into the route.   Happily, the construction turned out to be repaving and we enjoyed ten miles of this:

Our first stop was in a very small farming community.  The owner of the convenience store also had a coin laundry and car wash on site.  He had a sign posted that I don't think I've ever seen:

I asked him about and he said he had people bring in things like horse blankets to wash, which made a real mess in the machines.

We passed mile of corn and soybeans today.  We didn't notice any vegetable farms today.

The weather forecast this morning predicted an increased chance of rain between 10 and 12.  By 11:30, we were seeing dark skies ahead.  It got a little lighter as we rode and we thought we had gotten lucky, but just before noon, we hit some light sprinkles.  In only few minutes, we came upon the Lakeview Conservative Mennonite Church and its welcoming portico.

We sheltered there for about twenty minutes, then the rain stopped and the sun came out.  It never rained very hard, but it was nice to be able to stay dry.

We had about 25 miles left after we left the church and they passed quickly.   After one more Diet Coke break, we were at our hotel before 3;00.  Tomorrow is a short day.  We plan to sleep in and have a leisurely breakfast before we ride to Kincardine.

Today's ride: 62 miles (100 km)
Total: 3,597 miles (5,789 km)
