Day 88 - Rochester, IN to Nappanee, IN

We had a pleasant ride out of Rochester this morning on a path through a city park.  There were many twists and turns and I had to watch the Garmin carefully to be sure that we stayed on the correct path, but is was an easy way to get out of town.  Just north of town, we got a few views of Lake Manitou, a  popular recreational lake.

Soon we were back in the usual agricultural surroundings.

Just one barn photo today

Our first stop was in the town of Mentone.  They had a sign saying it was the "Egg Basket of the Midwest".  Soon we saw lots and lots of chicken houses.

This place was small - just two of these houses

This place was huge.  There were several of these large houses.

As we got closer to Nappanee, we began to see some Amish farms.

Jeanna & Kerry SmithTo Mike ObermeyerOne of the observations we always made in Ohio is that Amish farms are immaculately kept - not always true of other farms.

This one walked over to say "hey" because "hey is for horses", right?

Bicycles are a popular means of transportation among the Amish.

We're in a nice hotel tonight with good WIFI - such a luxury.  Tomorrow we ride up to Shipshewana through a large Amish area.  We'll try to have some good pictures.

Today's ride: 44 miles (71 km)
Total: 2,871 miles (4,620 km)
