Day 82 - Watseka, IL to Monticello, IN

Today's route was almost entirely on US 24.  Some parts were OK with a decent shoulder, but others had no shoulder at all.  There were a lot of semis, which didn't make for a very relaxing ride.  Everyone drove carefully and there were no problems, but we were glad to get to our hotel.

This is downtown Watseka, IL. We rode through on our way out of town this morning.

We see various interesting things moving down the road.  This was parked at a wayside rest stop.

Probably something agricultural, but it looks like a space capsule to me.

We entered Indiana just 12 miles into our ride.  This county is in Eastern time.  Tomorrow we will spend one more night in Central time in northern Indiana.

A short way into Indiana, we came to this big plant.  It is Newton County Stone.  It creates agricultural lime from limestone quarried on the site.

There was a railroad running along the highway.  When we saw this, we knew we wouldn't be seeing any trains today.

Alain AbbateIf the train is going fast enough it can probably make it across.

This is another interesting thing we saw moving down the road today.  I didn't get a very good photo, but does anyone have any ideas about what it is?

This had multiple "wide load" escorts. It was truly an oversized load - besides the normal leading and trailing escort vehicles, there were 4 state police cars with all their flashers on. All oncoming traffic had to pull over to allow the truck to pass.

We had a stop in Goodland, IN.  This sign was funny enough that we turned around to get a picture of it.

I wonder if the "2 old grouches" know who they are?

An unknown (to us) seed company growing hybrid corn for next year. Each four row group you see are the 'female' rows which had their tassels cut off. The gap you see is where the 'male' row was. Once it pollinated the female rows, the male row was removed, leaving only the cross-bred females. For those truly curious go to the following link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Detasseling
