Day 24 - Kewanee, IL to Moline, IL

We enjoyed our ride today.  The weather was almost perfect - highs in the upper 70's with partly cloudy skies.  We were very comfortable.  It was nice not to have to watch storm clouds gather and wonder how fast we could ride.

The panniers packed better after my winnowing yesterday.  I don't think there was any discernible difference in their weight, but I KNEW they were lighter!

On the way out of Kewanee, we took a short ride around downtown.

The downtown business district looked nice.

A few miles north of Kewanee, we saw this marker about the Great Sauk Trail.

There's much left of the trail to see.

Another pretty town we went through today was Geneseo.

We didn't go up and read the plaque, but we are in the land of Lincoln.

Past Geneseo, we saw a few other interesting things.

How much longer will this old silo be visible?

Kerry thought this might be an ethanol plant.

Just before reaching Moline, we crossed the Rock River.

Our hotel this evening is right on the Mississippi River.  Tomorrow, we are riding north on the Great River Trail and the blog will be awash with river pictures, so I'll not post any tonight.

Kerry here...  But I will!

View of Mississippi River from our hotel, looking upstream. We're about 900 miles north of Natchez, MS and it's still too wide to walk across. However, in another 600 miles that will change!

That's the Great River Trail the people are walking on. We will ride it all day tomorrow to Savanna.
