Day 90 Amherst, NY

Today we made it back to Buffalo (actually Amherst) after 17 days in New York. We'll head south tomorrow for one more night in New York before we get to Pennsylvania.
I have very few pictures from today. We had a light, misty rain much of the day and never saw the sun. It just wasn't a good day to take photos. We rode through more fruit orchards, vegetable farms and dairy farms. I took some pictures at one huge dairy operation.
There were hundreds of these calf hutches. Newborn calves are removed from their mothers immediately after birth and live in these little huts for about 8 weeks, before being moved to larger huts which house several calves.
We got our last glimpse of Lake Ontario at Olcutt Beach. I don't think you can really see the lake in this photo, but it's there! The cloud cover was total all day.
We stopped for lunch outside Lockport at a local restaurant. I had noticed "Beef on Weck" on the menu at several places recently and decided to try it. The couple in line behind us told me it was the local specialty. The "weck" is a type of hard roll called kimmelweck (or kummelweck) that is covered with coarse salt and caraway seeds. The beef is thinly sliced rare roast beef. It was served with a potent horseradish and was very good.
Today's ride: 56 miles (90 km)
Total: 4,118 miles (6,627 km)
