Day 12 St. Charles, MO

We left the B&B this morning with hopes of a short, easy day. It was short, anyway. As a person who has lived 24 years of her life in Florida, I can say this heat is really oppressive. Even 27 miles was exhausting.
Leaving Alton, we crossed the Mississippi River on the Clark Bridge and entered Missouri. The bridge has a nice clean bike lane and traffic was light on a holiday morning.
After entering Missouri, it was a short ride through a rural area to the start of the Katy Trail.
I had read that the eastern end of the Katy Trail was not accessible to cars. As it turned out, the eastern end is barely accessible by bicycle!

Once we got the bikes around the boulder and through the gates, it was a clear path to the Katy Trail.
We got to St. Charles around 12:30 and decided to stop at the bike shop cafe for a cold drink before we checked in.
Today's ride: 27 miles (43 km)
Total: 565 miles (909 km)
