Day 95 in Pensacola
WARNING: RANTToday Curt and Helene drove over to our B&B and the six of us biked to visit the National Naval Aviation Museum. The museum is located on base at Naval Air Station Pensacola. This turned out to be the most bicycle unfriendly place we have encountered in over three months and 4500 miles of cycling. This base absolutely DOES NOT ALLOW CYCLISTS on the base to go to the museum (except military and dependents) even though the base museum is open to passenger vehicles. The base commander apparently had a prior bad experience with some cyclists on base and has used his power to ban cyclists from entering, EVEN THOUGH we would have been admitted if we had arrived in a car. This is just so wrong. One of our party, who is a retired police officer, called the NAS police supervisor, who finally said he would send a vehicle to the gate to transport the six of us to the museum. About 20 minutes later, a vehicle arrived with a police driver who would only take three of us. He would not make two trips. He would not let us try to fit in the truck. His refusal was adamant, so we gave up and left. We felt like the alleged attempt to help us was never sincere. The whole experience was aggravating and insulting. END OF RANT

The rest of the day was lots of fun. We rode back to downtown Pensacola and went to the Farmer's Market. We walked around and had lunch, then came back to the B&B. We had a good time just talking and enjoying each other's company, then went out to walk around other parts of town. We stopped for a very good dinner, then came back here for the rest of the evening. One of the best things about staying at a B&B is having living rooms/common areas for socializing.
This was our last planned rest day. Tomorrow we start the final week of our trip.
Today's ride: 23 miles (37 km)
Total: 4,525 miles (7,282 km)
