Day 20: Burkeville, VA to Midlothian, VA
Words for the day: Hot, Hilly, Happy (to be finished)
The route through the Virginia countryside was pretty and peaceful. There were farms and homes ranging from well kept small frame houses to mega-estates.

At one place, we noticed corn growing in an untilled field. We had read a little about "no-till" farming in the past. It's supposed to be better for the soil by decreasing erosion and increasing soil nutrients.
We have seen guinea fowl on a few farms, but they run as soon as we stop to get a picture. These allowed themselves to be photographed. We also saw the usual assortment of horses, cows, goats and sheep and one llama today.
After the unpaved road debacle in South Carolina, "we" have been looking very carefully at each mile of our route. Somehow "we" missed this one. It was about two miles on hard packed dirt and not difficult to ride on, but I am always uneasy about loose gravel or soft spots.
Today was the hottest day we've had since we left home. It was over 90 when we got here about 1:45. It wasn't really bad, but we had 24 miles between stops today. That's about 10 miles over our preferred stopping interval. Tomorrow's route to Thornburg has places to stop every 10-15 miles, so we'll be much happier.
Today's ride: 53 miles (85 km)
Total: 988 miles (1,590 km)
