A Day in Limburg to see Georg Perform

When we cycled on the Lahn River last year, we had a chance to sightsee in Limburg with Cora. Limburg continues to be one of our favourite historic cities in Germany - rich with history, picturesque cobbled lanes and half timbered houses. We jumped at the chance to return here for the day with the added bonus of seeing Georg perform with his group, the Limdom Buskers.

Limburg an der Lahn, a pretty and fascinating place to stroll and marvel at the living history of these lanes.

The notorious Limburg "Bishop of Bling" built this private church for his personal use at great expense.

The Bishop continues to live here but is no longer actively working as the bishop. He lived in the building on the left and his compound extends far to the right to include gardens - on all of this he spent millions of euros to improve for his benefit. His notoriety has made Limburg even more popular with curious sightseers. We understand the outrage of the locals at his abuse of power in this small city

What a great spot to have lunch - note the distinctive pottery with blue detailing on the ledge. This is unique to Hessen region.

We will miss a well poured Weizen (Weissen - wheat beer) when we go home....until next year!

Barry enjoyed pork knuckle for lunch - a hearty meal.

This dog patiently waited while his master had lunch in the pub. We think the dog has done this before.

We have really enjoyed watching Georg perform. Limdom Buskers - a clever name for this group who mostly busk in Limburg. Lim: short for Limburg and dom for the landmark Limburg sight: the cathedral.

Limdom Buskers fans come in all shapes, sizes and species.

Today is Niamh's farewell performance as she returns to Ireland tomorrow. She hopes to return every few months so that they can continue to busk together.

We got these complimentary glasses at the local store. When you pour cold beer in the glass, the German colours of the flag appear. This glass is in honour of Germany's World Cup victory this year.
