Day 89 Williamston NC to Kinston NC
It was warm when we left this morning but it wasn’t long before I needed to put my jacket on. The head wind in the beginning was cool. When we got out of the headwind, the jacket came off. The roads in the morning were like wash boards. As we rode we came across tobacco fields. I was wondering if we would be seeing them. I know they aren’t like they were years ago when more people smoked but they are still around. It’s funny as we have been following the East Coast Greenway and today is the first time we have seen any signs for it. We came upon these horses so we stopped. Usually they are curious and will come over to us, but these two were not sure. They would go back and forth but not come closer. There were horses in the fenced area behind these two and they were trying to come closer but couldn’t. Soon the two in the front started running and so did the ones in the back. We decided they weren’t going to get closer so off we went. When we arrived in Greenville, Hubs was in heaven. There were sculptures everywhere. I started taking pictures and then would notice more. I couldn’t take pictures of all of them as I would have been there all day. As we rode off we kept seeing more. There was a giraffe, camel and an elephant I would have loved to get pictures of but we were in amongst traffic by then. Luckily the road through Greenville was easy to ride on. We went by this one house where this guy was sitting on his porch. He stood up and waved with both hands and told us to have a safe trip. Loved it. We came upon a covered wagon and it reminded us of Allan from our last cross country trip. I would of had Hubs take my picture with me sitting in it but there was a wire fence in front of it. Again we had horrible roads to pedal on and then found a gas station with picnic tables so decided to stop for lunch. We were not near any farm or animals but I couldn’t believe all the flies. We didn’t last there too long. We didn’t get much shade today and it was not fun. Again, we are not used to the heat as for the last couple of months it has been great weather temperature wise. We came upon this field with a lot of immigrant workers getting ready to go into the fields. We stopped to ask what they were going to picking as they each had a blue plastic bucket but none of them spoke English. They had to drive through the field to where they were going so we never found out what they were getting. We finally got to Kingston and found our retro motel. The name is Mother Earth Lodge and it is neat. I took some pictures so you could get an idea of what it looks like. Once we got everything into the room we decided to go in the pool. What a shock to get into pool water. We are so used to our hot tub we thought the pool was cold. It was a quick dip and
