Day 88 Edenton NC to Williamston NC

I woke during the night and it sounded like it was pouring outside. I also heard some thunder but didn’t realize we were supposed to get rain. Everything was wet and muggy when we left. The sun rise looked beautiful. We stopped at Food Lion and picked up some sandwiches for lunch and off we went. We came upon these flowers here and there in some peoples yards. It didn’t look like they were purposely planted where they were. The color is pretty and picture worthy. I love how people are so creative with tires. The cow and pig were so cute. The poor pig was missing an eye. 😟.We had to ride over this big bridge and there was a lot of traffic but luckily it was a four lane road so just about every car pulled to the left lane. I couldn’t look around as I know I would freaked out.  I gave out triple thank you’s to all that moved over so there were lots of them. We were on route 17 and at one point our gps had us turn into this beautiful neighborhood. The lots were huge and the homes big. We went by this lady and she asked where we were going and Hubs said South Carolina. She said “in this neighborhood?”. Well, she was right. The gps had us take a left and as we rode we noticed the road was blocked and had a no trespassing sign in front. We turned around hoping the gps would reroute us but she couldn’t. We went back to the lady named Diana) and asked about the closed road. She said it doesn’t go anywhere. She said Google needs to update its maps. She helped us to get us back on track and off we went. We did get off of route 17 which was nice as it makes the ride so quiet without all the traffic. Eventually we ended back on 17. By 11:00 we were so hungry that we found a bench in front of a meat market. We went in and got drinks and sat outside eating our sandwiches. This gentleman named Robert asked about our trip and he thought it was great. He also gave us his phone number so we can call him and let him know we got home okay. We did notice that todays ride was not as nice as yesterdays. We had a lot of Bumpity bump roads today which sucks. We did come across another turtle in the road and Hero Hubs helped him get across. I hope he made it to where he was going. We have been  riding by a lot of cotton crops the last few days

and Hubs stopped to see if from the rain it was soggy. It was not but boy was it soft. We actually got into Williamston early even though we added extra miles by going through that neighborhood. While we were registering I asked if they had a laundry by chance and KP said yes. Boy was I excited as we really needed to have our laundry done. It is so nice to have clean clothes. Tomorrow we head to Kinston. It will be a 60+ mile day. Hopefully the roads will be smooth to help us ride faster.

Today's ride: 47 miles (76 km)
Total: 170 miles (274 km)

Phil/Ann DettwilerWe are on our way home from helping out with our grandson and the day is gorgeous here: 67 degrees. Hoping you have similar, although fear Hurricane Lee has provided humidity aplenty. Our daughter said NYC was really hot and humid…not comfy at all. May your long ride be smooth and fun! 😀

Lois AlexanderTo Phil/Ann DettwilerGlad you had fun with your grandson. We wish we had your weather. It has been real hot the last few days. High 80’s and low 90’s. The roads here in North Carolina suck but we are pedaling through.
