Day 7 Tanasket WA to Republic WA
Today it was 55° when we got up. Seems like that is the norm the last few days. I was not really awake when we got up. Hubs wanted to be on the road at 6AM but we started out at 6:30. We ended up stopping at a gas station in town for breakfast. We were lucky to find those cereals in their own cups. I was really nervous about today as I knew it was going to be a long steep climb. Total it was about 28miles to the top of Wauconda Pass. Elevation over 4310 feet. Hubs had to keep encouraging me as it was tough. I did a ton of pushing but kept at it. He can pedal much better than me on the climbs and I could push better than him. As usual we stopped a lot to catch our breath or to take a break. I think it was around 11:30 that we stopped for lunch. Got out our trusty chairs and made ourselves yummy peanut butter and jelly wraps. Yum. 🙃. We sat for quite awhile watching the cars go by but then it was time to push onward and upward. I could not believe it when we finally made it to the top of the pass. That did not take us out of the clear as we had I think 3 more climbs to do before we got into town, but we made it. As we pulled up to the stop sign right in town I hear “is that you Gary?”. It was our warm showers host Patty across the street. I asked her if she lived on a hill and sadly she said yes! 3/4 mile up. UGH. Seeing there was a brewery right in town we went in so Hubs

could have his just rewards of a hard day of pedaling, pushing and trying to keep his wife upbeat. We made it to Patty and Rob’s place and told us to pick a room downstairs. When I got in the room and saw what was out the window, I smiled. A hot tub! Patty said to go in and that we did. It felt sooooooo good. What a view from the tub on the mountain. After she made us a delicious dinner of Alaskan Halibut (that Rob caught himself in Alaska) salad and grilled veggies. When Rob got home we all went on the deck to get to know each other and chat about lots of things. These are the times that make the trip all the more worthwhile. Patty even made some delicious homemade cookies for dessert. Recipe to follow. She is also another Biking Angel as she and Rob will be taking us to our next destination tomorrow so we will not have to pedal over Sherman Pass. They will be going golfing in the town we will be staying in for the night. I know Hubs would prefer to bike it but he knows I really need a break. Tomorrow we head to Kettle Falls WA.
Today's ride: 41 miles (66 km)
Total: 3,250 miles (5,230 km)
