Day 21 west Glacier MT to Glacier Meadows Campground Essex MT

It was cool this morning when we left and we had 10 climbs to do. We had one in the beginning and then we seemed to flatten out for about 4 miles or so. That was nice even though you are continually pedaling. The views were great and the smell of pine was awesome. We tried twice to stop at two different cafes but neither one was open. One was neat as they had a huge chess set outside and some neat cubbie chairs to sit in. As we were leaving we noticed a lot of octagonal shaped places to rent. I wish I got a picture of those. The 2nd cafe we were coming up to was advertising coffee and espresso but when we stopped they weren’t open. They don’t open till 11:00. It was 10:20 when we arrived. Hello, people want their coffee

and espresso when they get up not at lunch time. It is amazing the hours some of these places have. It’s summertime and vacationers are everywhere. We saw the river and wanted to stop there for lunch but couldn’t figure out how to get to it. We did go down this side road but it looked like it was going down and we didn’t want that so we just stayed where we were and dined on our delicious PB&J wraps. When we left, we did not leave alone. Tons of flies decided to ride with us. UGH! I can’t stand that. When they got tired they would just ride along on our bags. I have to say there were a lot of traffic and most of the people in campers are nice but this one A hole just layed on the horn as if that is supposed to help. Jerk!At one of our stops to rest we noticed these cars on the side of the road and we went to investigate. It looked like huge stairs with watering coming down that some kids were climbing. These are the things you don’t see if you just drive by. The rest felt good too. We made it to the campground and the hosts here are very nice. We got to take showers and now I am doing laundry. It’s always nice to have clean clothes. Tomorrow we head to Browning MT.

Today's ride: 39 miles (63 km)
Total: 2,866 miles (4,612 km)

Debbie ColeJust read your post while Scott is driving as we head south on 95 in weekend traffic coming through Maine towards the tolls. Pain in the butt. Sounds like you guys have a better thing going. Not sure it was a good idea for us to head up there this afternoon. Poor timing choice hahaha
