Stage Thirteen: Normandy and WWII (Eurovelo 4, Maple Leaf Route, Veloroute de Lin) 450km
This section will be a bit of a reprise for us, since we came up on the Francette last year, through Caen. Then, we absorbed the dramatic stories of the D-Day landings, and also appreciated the very beautiful and mostly empty beaches - the former scenes of such horrors.
This time we will push east, beyond the area we cycled last time, following approximately the way the Canadian soldiers progressed after the landings. Check back to our earlier page for the story of the Maple Leaf Route.
From Fecamp to Dieppe we will dip inland a bit, on the Veloroute du Lin (Flax Route). We read that this has fewer hills than the way closer to the coast, which is fine by us. We have no idea, though, exactly what we will find inland, or what the coast would be like. It will all be news to us!
