Feb 13, 2025 - Nervousness

Unleashed Craziness

IT WAS during the tour with Alex a few months ago in Spain that our
final day was crushed by the unthinkable.

Since then, things have gotten even nuttier in the Banana Republic of America. Perhaps this is not the place for these comments, but the thoughts are banging around in many heads these days and if nothing else, I did not stand by and say, "Well, that's ok, I guess."

It is not ok that an elected official is setting his sights on personal gain, including threatening the sovereignty of other countries.

The crazy cult south of us is heading to a brink and will likely take innocent bystanders down with it.

It is with these lovely thoughts that I was wondering if it is a good idea to be out travelling. In case it is the last time - I am going.

Steve Miller/GrampiesWe are having the very same thoughts. It is not an easy time to be alive.

Brent IrvineTo Steve Miller/GrampiesYup. I'm expecting the cycling along day by day will clear my mind at least a wee bit.

Bob Koreisbe glad you are only nutty adjacent. I'm about 18 months out from retirement and I'm worried that's going to get nuked.

Kelly IniguezI'm concerned about traveling abroad and what peoples' reactions will be to finding out we are Americans. It is an unpopular time to be an American, even if we as individuals are nowhere near the decision making process!

Each day is an amazement at what is unfolding.

Brent IrvineTo Kelly IniguezI empathize. That is how I feel if I were to go to your country (though I am not). Somewhat unknown uneasiness.

Karen PoretI flat out tell people ( when they learn I am from USA) “I did NOT vote for DT”. Cancelling my newspapers ( the costs skyrocketed for home delivery) and not having a TV set has helped somewhat. However, I need to stop scrolling the newspapers online just before I go to bed. The nightmares are “I want my Mom” kind, and she is already in heaven, safe.

Brent IrvineTo Karen PoretIt must be awful, too, having such a split country. I'm sorry you and those who didn't choose him need to live alongside his cultists.

Karen PoretTo Brent IrvineActually, if one has to keep residing in this country, I am in one of the bluest places of the state of California. Not many Trumpers are here. Thanks for your comments, Brent!

Jacquie GaudetMy thoughts are similar. I worry that the elephant, in its current bad temper, will attempt to squash the mouse.

Karen PoretTo Rachael AndersonAgreed! It is sobering how so few republicans are not taking action against him and doing what they were elected for: we, the people”.

Keith ClassenIt’s hard to believe (and scary) what is happening south of the border and the open threat to our sovereignty. We certainly won’t be visiting the US in the near future and are changing our buying habits to do our little part. On the plus side it has united Canadians like I have never seen in my lifetime.
(I love the theme of your journal - more R Acts of Kindness are truly needed in our troubled times)
