It's a winter wonderland - A Winter Tour - 2025 - CycleBlaze

It's a winter wonderland

We don't ski any more, but if we did, we could. The ground is frozen and covered with snow today, four days before we embark on an outing starting at the front door. Why are we doing this? Because I am a believer.

I  believe in weather predictions and Friday is predicted to be sunny with a high of 14C. The following two days will stay in the teens and that's enough enticement to get cyclists, starved for touring, out for a three day mini-tour.

The plan is simple, the first day we head south to Bad Tölz just short of the Alps, then west to Weilheim and on the final day back home. The first day is the longest and also the warmest. The morning and late afternoon will be considerably cooler but we will try to stay in the sweet spot where the temperature is closer to 14C.

We will travel clockwise to Bad Tölz and then Weilheim.

As I write this I am leary of posting it. I can't quite believe we are doing this when I look at the thermometer and the snow covered ground.

Rich FrasierYou're so brave! We're cowering in the house and complaining about the wind. No snow anywhere to be seen and we still won't plan a tour! Hope it works out!

Gregory GarceauIt definitely takes bravery to conduct a wintertime tour, but I think it takes even more bravery to believe in weather predictions. Congratulations for taking on both tests of bravery. (But just in case, bring enough clothing to be prepared for the worst.)

This morning it is 14-degrees below zero (F) here in Minnesota. Even I won't go for a tour in that weather, so I look forward to reading about yours instead. Have fun!

Rachael AndersonGood for you! I certainly can understand wanting to get out but I would have a hard time with the cold. Fortunately, I know you have the right clothing for cold!

Kathleen JonesThose are great temps for winter cycling! That’s what we’ve been having over here in my neck of the woods. I’m such a California gal now that I’m pretty well bundled up. My excuse is the headwinds off the ocean can bite. I hope you have a lot of fun.

Grüß Janos von mir.

Suzanne GibsonTo Tricia GrahamThe heat is harder to take than the cold I think. It is so debilitating.

Suzanne GibsonTo Gregory GarceauI certainly intend to overdress for the tour, and take off layers as needed.

Suzanne GibsonTo Rachael AndersonRight, I do have the warm weather gear. It's good I will have it all on because it would probaby be too much for two panniers!

Suzanne GibsonTo Betsy EvansThanks! I have heated gloves as well, but the battery is empty in less than an hour, even on the lowest setting. But I will make do.
