Day 2 Bad Tölz to Weilheim

I don't know why, but I had a terrible night. I tossed and turned and got little sleep, but the good breakfast of Posthotel Kölberbräu restores me. As usual the German breakfast is ample, the scrambled eggs are done just right, no complaints. Janos is feeling fine today and we are off around ten.

Bad Tölz in the cold morning light.

Here we are looking downstream and to the right is the church and chapel in the wall painting in my previous picture.

Same view of Bad Tölz from the bridge as yesterday - what a difference morning and evening light makes.

The first half of today's ride is really not very interesting. We are on a bike path following the main road and have to pass through the outskirts of Penzberg. With a bit more attention to detail, I could have routed us on small roads a bit to the north, it would have hardly been longer. Today's route is short anyway and there isn't much climbing involved.

Outside of Penzberg I think it might do us good to stop for a light meal, a soup or something. We stop at a small restaurant that we should have passed by. We wait forever to order from a menu that is very limited, nothing on it really fills the bill. Then what I order turns out to be an enormous serving, more than the two of us could consume if we wanted to. Lesson learned, don't hang around if you don't like the looks of the place, just beat it.

At the halfway point, around Iffeldorf, everything gets better. We are on a quiet road with fields and animals and views.

I can't identify a single peak, so I'll just say the Alps.

These sheep take a while to develop an interest in us, but eventually they even amble over to the fence.

We don't often see cattle out to graze at this time of year.

Nancy GrahamI love the color coordination in this photo of lying down grazing cattle. ;’-)

When we check in to Hotel Pöltnerhof we are very pleased with what we see. The original farm buildings have been beautifully remodeled to hotel rooms and restaurant, while retaining details such as wooden beams or tile floors which gives it a lot of charm. I don't take any pictures! So often I realize when I write up my journal what I should have been taking pictures of.

On Pöltnerhof's recommendation we have reserved a table at their restaurant. That was a good move since the restaurant is full on a Saturday night and the food is excellent.

Pöltnerhof, the reception is to the left and facing us is what was originally the hay barn with the typical ramp up to the entrance. Photo courtesy of Booking

Nancy GrahamTo answer you about the formatting of you post, yes, I see short lines that are disconnected from sentences. I will say, it does not distract me from enjoying your post, but am sure you are not liking it.

I like that Pilsner glass 😉. And those sheep are just so friendly, one even wanted you to photo his/her good side profile.

Suzanne GibsonTo Nancy GrahamI've improvised a solution for the crazy formatting and fixed it. Thanks for the feedback.

Suzanne GibsonTo Scott AndersonInteresting, Janos doesn't see it on his tablet either. I have found a work-around solution by cutting the text and pasting it in Word without formatting and then re-importing the text. I hope this doesn't happen on the next pages or in future journals.

Rich FrasierTo Suzanne GibsonSuzanne - I've been having the same formatting problems on my Mac desktop computer. I found the same workaround you did, but it only works sometimes for me. I wonder if the browser is at the root of the problem. I use Firefox.

Suzanne GibsonTo Rich FrasierThat's interesting. I use Firfox, too. I'll give it a try with Chrome. It only happens in the text, not in comments or picture subtitles. And only with CycleBlaze.

Suzanne GibsonTo Rich FrasierI think it must be Firefox related. I tested with Google Chrome and had no problems with the format. Thanks for the tip.
