We now interrupt this journal.... - A Short Savannah Sojourn - CycleBlaze

We now interrupt this journal....

Feb 13

I am four days into the tour and have decided to take a pause in the journal - due to technical and physical reasons.

Technically, cell signals are very weak and there very little if any wifi in the places we have been staying.

Physically, I had a hard fall two days ago and broke a rib - no more cycling. Luckily, the fracture is not displaced but there is separation at the break site. I considered continuing on, riding in the Land Cruiser and partaking in the wildlife viewings and camaraderie among the great group of riders and guides. However, I deemed the bumpy roads would be jarring and did not want to risk displacement and further complications.

Right now I am resting/healing in the home base lodge of the touring guides. I am well taken care of and am meeting all sorts of interesting folks on their way up or down from Mt. Kilimanjaro. I'm gradually getting more sleep as I adjust and the pain subsides. Otherwise I am doing quite well, disappointed yes but enjoying my time in Tanzania.

The journal will continue, catching up on the two wonderful days of cycling through the savannah and the aftermath of the fall. Unless the wifi/cell signal improves dramatically, new entries will be delayed until I return to the US on the 20th.

Thanks in advance for all your well wishes, but know that I am confident in a full recovery and returning to Europe in early April.

Steve Miller/GrampiesOh my! We are so sorry to hear this. It is wise that you have not continued, since bouncing along might very well have made an uncomfortable situation into a dangerous one. We wish you a rapid and complete recovery. There are still more adventures in your future and we look forward to reading about them.

Scott AndersonOh, Susan. I am so sorry to hear this. There are worse injuries than a broken rib of course, but what a disappointment. It’s good to see that your head is in the right place. Heal well! We’ve got a date in Annecy just around the corner!

Bill ShaneyfeltSuch a sad thing! I can well identify with the rib... 3 times I have cracked one. Takes a minimum of 6 weeks before there is no pain on movement.
