Aguilar de Campoo

Beautiful town

This blog entry is mostly upside down showing the town we ended up in first.

The weather was a beautiful 61 degrees cloudy with a short light rain while we’re stopped at a gas station for a snack. Surprisingly, 61 felt comfortable no need for any layers.

Aguilar Campoo or destination for today. This is a sidewalk gas station. A couple of pumps and an attendant.

River

On an island in the middle of a fast running river we found vertical trees their branches having a narrow spread. Children’s playground in background.

There were two playgrounds on two separate islands in the river. This one for toddlers.

Santa Maria La Real Monastery

Bell not tower of monastery. I’ve forgotten the term. This monastery used the bells as information signals in addition to religious purposes.

Very old section of the wall blended into newer section

When finances were difficult they built these flat bell facades instead of towers. We’ve seen many churches along the route with this edifice.

Bike leaning against old lock house. The locks seem to still function. We started the day riding along a canal for about 5 miles. Then switched to the road N-611. It is possible to take canal roads almost all the way to Aguilar.
