Up and down riding along an old rail line

Maars - Mosel cycle route

We woke to another misty morning and got started early. A short ride to the bus stop across the river in Kues. This regional bus pulls a trailer that can hold 15 bikes. The bus took us to Daun where the Maars to Mosel cycle route begins in the heart of an old volcanic region.

At the old train station in Daun. They have a painted rail car that serves as a cafe.

Then it was up an down through rolling countryside. Nothing very steep as it was a train route. Our route was more downhill than uphill but we did climb over 700 feet. The countryside we passed through was mostly pastureland or crop land as well as some forested sections. We rode through about 4 tunnels.

The first part of the trail was a long slight uphill grade

This high bridge is no longer used but the trail used to go over it.
