Multi-modal biking

Two new Tally-ites joined us for this week of riding. This morning we took off in a van to Rovereto and then rode back to Riva del Garda. We had to be back by 2:30 to catch the last boat back to Desenzano. Otherwise we would be out of luck and stranded at the wrong end of the lake…. Because of the time crunch and because we got a late start we decided to shorten the first day and start the ride from Rovereto.  It’s a good thing we did as we just barely got to Riva in time to get something to eat before boarding the boat.

Our first view of Torbole and Lake Garda

Torbole, at the top of lake Garda. Large downhill to get down to the lake. At one point on the downhill we had to stop for a stoplight as they only let traffic go one direction at a time through the switchbacks. We were very grateful for that stoplight when we saw the number of cars lined up waiting to to come up the hill.

The boat ride was an event of its own, we saw so many sail boats, wind surfers, kite surfers etc. we traversed all of lake Garda from north to Dohle and east to west. We stopped in 15 different ports along the way.

greta combsThis picture is so evocative - I can hear the slap of the water on the pier and posts.
