La Serenissima

Today we moved on, some going to Florence and the rest of the group to Venice and then Murano. we left Desenzano by train and less than two hours later we emerged from the Venice train station onto the grand canal. What a site!

We are staying on Murano so the first order of business was getting out there. We had planned to take a vapporetto out to Murano but Venice was in the middle of a 24 hr transit strike, after much finagling we got a water taxi that would take us out to Murano.

We drove sedately through the canals but once he hit the open water all bets were off and he zoomed to Murano as fast as he could! It was a wild ride.

This was a very low bridge and at some points it looked like we would scrape the bridge. The three of us sitting outside all ducked our heads reflexively.

We arrived in Murano and explored the island, visited some glass shops and generally got our bearings. The apartment we booked is tiny but surely makes efficient use of space.

The restaurant where we ate lunch had wonderful Murano glass glasses

We visited this small church and admired its Murano glass chandeliers

Very appropriate chandeliers for a church on Murano.

Both bedrooms have glass floors in part of the room. It feels a little bit creepy to walk on them….
