Some of the old lanes are very narrow. This car had to manouver very carefully.

The mosaic floors uncovered at the Villa Romano from 2 AD were just amazing. Lots of pattern variety made from about half inch or smaller square tiles fitted together to make patterns. It’s amazing how they have survived more than 2,000 years.

These grinding sones were used to grind olives for oil and grapes for wine.

They also discovered sculptures that would have stood in the villas gardens.

As we were walking back from the villa we happened upon an antique car rally. Many cars were pulling into the town piazza and then heading out again bound for their next stopping point. Here are just a few of the cars we saw.

Desenzano del Garda was, from 1927 to 1936, the home of the famous "High Speed" unit of the Italian Air Force. This unit played a major part in achieving the highest technological levels in the world of aviation and its zeal was crowned by the world speed record, 709.209 kph, which was recorded on 23rd October 1934 by Warrant Officer Francesco Agello in the Macchi MC-72 seaplane powered by a Fiat A.S.6 3000 hp. engine. This record remains unbroken to this day.

This Sculpture is dedicated to high speed aviators. How appropriate given the air show we saw yesterday.

Then we headed back to our hotel’s terrace for cold drinks in the shade.
