The Centennial Trail is Flat Until it is Not…
Day 3 on the bikes, last day on the centennial trail. We had a chilly, windy start, maybe 51 when we started, as we rode from the hotel around the lake to downtown Couer d Alene and then further around the lake to Higgins Point. Beautiful lake and mountain views for most of the ride. The scenery was just gorgeous! We also saw lots of interesting public art along the ride. The ride was mostly “flattish” with a couple of significant hills thrown in for good measure…. No flat tires on our ride but one blew after we got back to the hotel.
Back at the hotel many of us ate pbj’s for lunch made from the breakfast buffet and then 7 of us took off for Blackwell island for a kayak tour on Lake Couer d’ Alene (thank you to Peter from Row Adventures for picking us up at the hotel). The weather had warmed up and the wind moderated before we got on the lake so we had a leisurely paddle in an idyllic setting. We saw several nesting osprey and a bald eagle having dinner on a post. We rafted up for snacks on the water then explored Corbin cove and paddled back to the slough where we launched the kayaks. Thank you Maddie (our guide), we had a great time!
After kayaking, 8 of us explored downtown Couer d’ Alene visited a bike shop and several stores, had great dinners, and finished the day off with delicious ice cream from Abi’s. Then a brisk 2 mile walk back to the hotel with a vibrant sunset.
