Day 5 - Syracuse to Rome

Day 5 - Great day riding! City Streets, new urban trail, the enlarged Erie Canal, historic interpretive exhibits, trail towns, more NY pizza, trail side shade, some climbing, boat traffic negotiating locks on the new Erie Canal.

Yep! It’s day 5 on the Erie Canal.

Breakfast at the zoo, the flamingos made us feel right at home.

An urban trail helped us stay safe on our ride out of syracuse

Then the trail migrated to the median and ran between the traffic lanes. We even had stop lights designated for cyclists. Where the cycle path crossed turn lanes the ground was painted green a signal to motorists that the trail crossed there.

Along the trail. On this section of the trail there were several bridges you could take to other parks etc.

We took at side trail to the Green Lake state park to look at the glacial water. It was an incredible shade of turquoise or aquamarine.

An aqueduct with water in it let a stream cross under the canal.

Here you can see the water running under the aqueduct.
