In Collioure: Port-Vendres, another way

When the hike was good it was very, very good but when it was bad, it was horrid!

I love seeing cats and this one was very friendly!

How did she manage to get out there with a baby and a stroller?
Heart 3 Comment 6
Bob KoreisLooks like a backpack baby carrier. When I zoom in I can differentiate the shoulder straps and a BIG hip belt. Still, that doesn't look like a place I'd want to walk with anything that could upset my balance.

Scott AndersonTo Karen PoretNot from Rachael’s photo, but I found one on the web with a translation:

Soleils Porter: Sculpture by Francesca Caruana.

"In November 1493 the last 39 non-converted (to catholicism) Jews of Roussillon (families all named), pusued/hunted by the inquisition and the king, set sail in the ships Santa Maria and Sant Cristofol.

Karen PoretTo Scott AndersonThank you, Scott.. how sobering!
The art piece sort of fits this description of what occurred then.

The next several photos were taken while I walked along the bay.  What a great walking path!

What a spectacular view from the windmill! I was very lucky to find someone that volunteered to take my photo.

The next several photos are hiking on the Sentier du Littoral trail.

What a great hiking trail!

The trail got harder to follow.

A beautiful spot but it would be easy to go sliding down the hill if you aren’t careful!

About this time, Scott called and mentioned he saw we were close to each other and could we meet for lunch.  I let him know I was in a dangerous spot and couldn’t talk right now.

What a great rock formation!

Very steep and scary!

Kathleen ClassenBad enough going up, but terrifying going down. And unlike here no big trees to grab.

Right after making it up the steep climb above, he called again and I broke into tears!  He suggested turning around but there was no way I was going down the steep incline.  I told him I’d call him back when I got to the top.

Still climbing but at least I’m away from the steep drop to the water.

Just a little farther to the top! My trail goes off to the right and gets to a much better trail going down.

I called Scott and we met up for lunch.  What a wonderful reunion!

On the way back from Port-Venderes after lunch.

Walking back from lunch in Port-Venderes, I took this photo looking down on the easy part of the Sentier de Mer trail. Little did I know it was going to become so dangerous, but I survived!

CJ HornOMG! And THAT is the "easy" part! I am in awe.

Rachael AndersonTo CJ HornThe path here was wide enough and not on a rocky trail that slopes steeply down to the water. I’ve done some challenging hikes but this is the worst one. My hike on November was much better!

Steve Miller/GrampiesWhat a messy situation you landed yourself in, accidentally of course. Glad nothing serious or permanent resulted and you made it back safely.

Rachael AndersonTo Steve Miller/GrampiesThanks. I’m definitely going to be more careful about what trails I choose and turn around sooner when I realize there’s a problem. The hike before this I did turn around.

Steve Miller/GrampiesTo Rachael AndersonWe're fine ones to talk! Here we are, more or less near the epicentre of the flooding in Valencia, debating whether we should ditch our reservation for tomorrow out here in the sticks or try to find a way to stick to the plan. Hint-tomorrow we will bail and return to the safety of our 10th floor room in Valencia city. More rain is in the forecast.
