In Brioude: day one
The weather’s mediocre today and we’re resting up from our two mile bike ride to and from train stations, so there aren’t many highlights to report out. One is lunch, always a highlight; and later in the day I walkedthrough town - mostly around Brioude’s basilica. I went inside and took a mountain of photos, but today we’ll just show it from the outside. We’ll put up a photo gallery of the interior later. After I got back to the apartment Rachael took her turn (we’ve only got one key) and went out for her own short walk and look inside the basilica. Otherwise we stayed inside, enjoying our spacious and comfortable apartment. It’s an excellent spot to hang out for a few days, and several steps up from the shoebox at the Moulin Ibis and that dump in Tours.
The only other news to report is on our health. We both continue to improve, and assuming we get decent weather tomorrow Rachael plans on taking a longer hike and I’ll take a short, slow, easy bike ride to test the waters. It feels like it’s time.
First, some random shots around town:

And then the Basilica, an exceptional structure inside and out. It’s the reason we’re here, really. We’ll have more to say later, but for now we’ll just look at the exterior, wonderful from all directions.
