Nice
Giant Boxes.
After yesterday’s failure to find boxes- we also tried at a Trek bike store near here, we’re a little apprehensive, however we do the research and come up with a list of possibilities. I also write out a short spiel for a phone call. My effort, when checked against Google translate, is la mēme.
In fact, the first place we call, Giant, about 13 kilometres inland following the Var, confirm they have 2 boxes. We don’t get much more detail but say that we’ll come and get them. It’s quite a way to go, and there’s the risk that they’ll be the wrong size, however I’m sure one will be fine for Ann’s bike as it requires a smaller box.

The route out is along the water at first and then a turn across the busy roadway and onto another cycleway, taking us most of the way. Roadworks are a little disruptive at one point but no problems. And when we arrive, we’re overjoyed to find the boxes are pretty much what we need.
We go to work removing staples and folding each one, before using bungee cables to attach them to the carriers of our bikes. Who invented bungee cables? Take a bow. I guess the platform divers of Tanna might have been inspiration. Anyway once the boxes are firmly attached, we head for ‘home’.
We celebrate with a dip in the Mediterranean. The water and temperature are parfait. Later I reassemble the boxes, with plenty of glue and parcel tape.
Today's ride: 28 km (17 miles)
