Hail the Sons of Knut!

THIS IS LIKE living out Garrison Keillor. Norwegian flags hang from houses. There are Lutheran churches. And then in yesterday's local paper, two items. The first:
"Sons of Norway Lodge 1-364 will meet at... Laurann Gilbertson, Vesterheim Norwegian-American Museum's textile curator, will present an armchair tour of Vesterheim's newest exhibit: "Pieces of Self-Identity and Norwegian-American Quilts." Several local quilts made by Big Canoe Ladies Aid, Highland Ladies Aid and Lena Werson will be included in her presentation. People attending are invited to bring quilt stories to share."
And then, more touching, the obituary of a girl of three killed in a car crash. Her obituary says: "She had pride in knowing all her letters and sounds and could wrtite her family's names and count to 10 in Norwegian."
