To somewhere near Camp Wood 18 Mar

Nueces River

It had been windy all day yesterday. When we got back from dinner, one of the tents had been knocked over and a pole snapped. The poor owner had just bought the tent in Austin because his old one was not working for him.

It was a clear night at the beginning and a lot of stars were visible until moon rise. It remained windy most of the night, but was the warmest we have had in a while.

I would have liked to stick around and do some more birding.

It was a ride with a lot of climbing but it was a beautiful day and a wonderful ride.  There were 3 major climbs, by our current standards, of 450, 540 and 520 feet each with pretty steep grades at some times over 10%.

I went to the little market in Leakey to choose food for dinner. Then back on the road. There weren't many other services along the way today. Winds were mostly favorable.

Bird Talk: other birds seen at Lost Maples: black-Chinned Hummingbird, Woodhouse's Scrub Jay( when did it get that name?), Black- Crested Titmouse, Lesser Goldfinch, Chipping, Lincoln;s, Rufous-Crowned Sparrow and Nor Cardinal at the bird blind. Common Yellowthroat, Bewick's Wren and White Winged Dove elsewhere.  Merlin said Yellow throated Warbler.

This RV park has Vermilion Flycatchers.

Today's ride: 45 miles (72 km)
Total: 1,693 miles (2,725 km)
