To Shepherd 9 March

Cool start. Very damp because it rained in the early night. Foggy wet start.

There were pretty good cross winds and head winds through the day. It got nicer in terms of temperature as the day went on.

Five of us have not ridden in the vehicle. We got a real test of our determination. A sign was up that a bridge was out ahead on our route. The detour was 30 miles. We took a chance and rode up to the bridge and were successful at crossing it. Vehicles were definitely blocked but bicycles could get by. In fact, there was a sensor of some kind that detected our presence and a recording sounded in English and Spanish that our pictures had been taken and that law enforcement had been notified.  Nothing came of it.

We stayed at the Shepard Sanctuary where we were offered cabins and a warm meeting room. It was very eclectic. The cabins had a tin room and there was a cat on a cold tin roof.  We were able to stay up a bit later with lights and heat.  Sorry no pics.

We had a big discussion on tire pressure and tubeless tires. Three of us are running tubeless.  Half of the others have had flats.

Some people feel that this was one of the hardest days due to the wind.

Today's ride: 60 miles (97 km)
Total: 1,235 miles (1,988 km)
