to Sanderson 21 March
We are near the border with Mexico and have seen a lot of Border Patrol vehicles and personnel.
Another cold night in the 40's. I started with a lot of clothing. There are no services along the way here. The van stopped a couple times along the way to supply water and gave me a chance to drop off some of the cold weather clothing.
It was a long day of 80 miles and 4000 feet of climbing. Fortunately, the winds were in our favor. The grades were fairly low. It was one of our best average speeds. We came across a self-supported rider going our way and invited him to stay at the church where we were going to be. He seemed uncertain but decided to do so.
We got a nice meal made by the pastor's wife and later got a lecture about the border situation from the pastor.
The terrain is still very dry with scrub.
There is a Judge Roy Bean Museum which I visited 10 years ago. I remembered that there were quite a few birds seen there. He had a thing for Lily Langtry.
Cactus. Wren Canyon Wren, Sage Thrasher, Vesper Sparrow (?).
Today's ride: 81 miles (130 km)
Total: 1,890 miles (3,042 km)
