to Palo Verde CA 10 - Stan's Excellent Cross Country Ride 2025 - CycleBlaze

to Palo Verde CA 10

Warmer this morning, possibly in the 60's. With the new schedule, we were rolling by 7:30 again.  It was a gradual climb out of Salome as we entered back on I-10.  Later  we descended into Quartzsite,  My tire was still not holding air, but I wasn't sure where the leak was.  We climbed up out of the bowl that holds Quartzsite and down towards the Colorado River and the California border. Still on I-10.  Pretty easy riding, some trash on the shoulder and tire pieces.  There was evidence of a car fire every mile or so.  Other roads have them spaced even closer together.

One of the riders noticed that there was a bike lane across the river and we had updated ride info to reflect that.  We crossed from Mountain Std Time to Pacific Daylight Time which are the same; no need to change clocks.

We had a water resupply at the border. I started to pump up my tire and air came shooting out of the hole I had plugged two days ago.  I got one of my good Dynaplugs and stuck it in and things seem much better.

Some rough roads  at the start of the CA section, which got better later.  We were looking for shade at one point and stopped by a fire station. When we knocked, they invited us in and we got some info on local crops.

I stayed at the Tamarisk RV Park last time I did this, only the third repeat. The other two were in LA.

Bird Talk: Gambel's Quail yesterday.  More White Face Ibis today and Common Gallinule. Several birds I didn't see well were likely to be Western Kingbird.

pics tomorrow i hope

Today's ride: 78 miles (126 km)
Total: 2,959 miles (4,762 km)

Nancy WrightHi Stan, Looks like you are headed through the sand dunes on Friday! When we went through there in 2019, there was a large group of 5th graders and chaperones biking through the dunes area on a five day biking field trip across part of the state. Maybe tomorrow you’ll be headed into the mountains to the west and possibly biking on Evan Hewes Highway. I remember that road had more potholes than I had ever seen on any road. Worst road of the trip! Maybe they have improved it since then… We avoided it by taking a pass a little to the north in 2019… In a few days, you’ll have a nice long downhill into San Diego! 🌞🚴🌞
