to El Paso 27
It was easy again to get going as we were inside with lights and tables, etc. Also, it was our first day in Mountain Time.
The weather was again warmer at the start. The road was well paved and we had a tailwind. There was a reservoir around mile 12 where Am White Pelicans, Ruddy Ducks, No Shovelers, Scaup, Bufflehead and Neotropic Cormorants were seen.
about halfway we got on a different highway with lots of traffic but also a bike lane most of the time. Later, we hit some busy parts of El Paso. There was a stop at a bike shop where people bought tubes, tires, helmets, etc.
There was a section here near the border wall as well. Mostly a good ride, too much traffic through the city.
The big news is about Bill. Bill has had many flats and bought a new tent only to have a pole break. He also took several days off for bronchitis (?). Anyway, the illness came back last night and he has decided to go home. He shrugged off so many setbacks, but could not see how this would work out. We all feel as if we have made it to the point where we can see a positive ending, so he was really disappointed to have to retire.
We are at a Motel 6 tonight. There was a problem with the lock on our door but that seems to be fixed.
Other "big" news; Pat got the battery he needed for his power meter pedals - the lack has been hard for him.
This was our last full day in Texas.
Update on my health: my left ankle has not bothered me for a while, I didn't even notice when it stopped. The rough roads were hard on my wrists. I will see what happens in the next states. So back to my usual achy knees, which is not holding me back.
Today's ride: 63 miles (101 km)
Total: 2,216 miles (3,566 km)
